MOVING ON UP! *CHEER PLACEMENTS HAPPENING NOW*

We are excited when athletes are able to move up through hard work and dedication. Today we move two of our athletes who was determined to make a higher level team. Coming in nearly everyday to train and hit all their skills, you have shown to be a champion at heart.

But moving up a level leaves a space open on our entry level team. SOOOOOO…That means TRYOUTS will open up once again!

2 SPACES have opened up for our NO EXPERIENCE required team. Contact Director Dre at cheer@rawtalents.org or 510-992-6811. Schedule your placement today!

The team is looking for 1 Strong Base and 1 Flyer.

Come see why our dedicated athletes experience rapid growth. See why our Small Division Program has taking titles against large programs and teams twice our size.

We don’t claim to be perfect, we have our high’s and our low’s. But, we have big high’s (like taking 1st place at Nationals hosted by USA Varsity Jamsport and more) when ALL Athletes are focused, dedicated, hardworking, make practices, stretch daily and focus on being the best they can be on the mats. That is the formula for #success

Didn’t make the Cheerleading Team – What to do

10 Apr

How to handle not making the cheer or dance team (How to help your child cope with not making the team)

You did all the right things, you took dance and cheer classes. You attend cheer clinics and spent countless hour,

dontlookbackpracticing day and night perfecting the moves. Tryouts day hits, you look your best, you have your biggest and brightest smile possible and you shout those cheers out loud enough for the world to hear. Your dance was flawless, your jumps – sky high. You wait anxiously outside the window with everyone else who tried out. Slowly the coach walks down the hall to post the list. The list goes up and everyone rushes toward the window to search for the name, you look and look again only to find YOUR NOT ON THE LIST.

Not making the team can lead to a list of emotions and it’s hard for friends and family to know the best way to help you deal with that lost or sad feeling you may have.  First, if your a parent, you need to understand that no matter how you feel about cheerleading or dance team, this tryout was important to your child so you must respond with caring and positive comments. Let them know, not making it is not a reflection on them, each tryout is different and some factors weigh more than others. Congratulate your child for having the courage it took to even tryout. So many kids want to tryout but are too scared to do it and your child had enough courage to get out there and do his/her best.  Let them know you understand not to get something you really want in life can be hard, but its not the end of the world. Remind them of other plans they had for the school year, encourage them to join a sport they love. Remind them that their school team is not the only cheer or dance team out there. Encourage them to join an Allstars or Recreational dance or cheer program – they will meet kids from other cities, schools and in some cases can be more fun and challenging than school cheer. Don’t tell your child not to cry, encourage them to show their sadness in a healthy way.

If your the cheerleader or dancer who didn’t make it, then we want to keep a few things in mind. Most tryouts are not just based on your cheering and dancing abilities. Tryouts judges consider a variety of items when judging a competition, some wonder how you would fit in with the returning team members, sometimes your teacher referrals hold a heavier score then your overall performance, in some cases they are thinking about next season’s routine and they are trying to visualize each person doing upcoming routines, and sometimes (and sorry but this is a very sad reality) they just chose teams based on current team members friends/family or kids they just have a preference too (that sucks when it happens, but it does happen).

A couple of things to consider, if you find yourself in this situation. First, if they don’t give you tryout score sheets, ask for some constructive feedback. Usually they will give you tips for the next time you tryout. Second, consider the fact that it may not have been you at all and just something that wasn’t a good fit for them as of right now. If you ever watch the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader Show, think about the time the coaches pulled a girl in a room and a performer how much they love the her, how beautiful she is, how amazing she is but they just couldn’t see her on the team. There is nothing you can do about that, if they love you but don’t see you as a great fit, that’s just that. It’s like you meet a really awesome guy but you just can see yourself dating him, no matter how awesome he is the connection just isn’t there. That happens with cheer and dance teams too. Third, remember it is not the end of the world, you can still cheer or dance for a team. Consider joining an Allstar Cheer and Dance program. Our Nor Cali Bay Area Cheerleading loves accepting all members regardless of experience. We have met some amazing cheerleaders and dancers who didn’t make their competitive team, but they join us and they are some of our strongest performers. If you really love cheer and dance, go online and see if you can find a cheer or dance team you can join. It’s a great way to do what you had your heart set on and get the experience you may need in order to tryout for your school next year.

Good luck and always SMILE BIG!

Hitting Your Routine Doesn’t Happen By Accident

9 Jan

In life they say not everyone can become be President,  a CEO or Gold Level Athlete, its not natural.  Many believe some people are just born with leadership skills or athletic abilities.  Some believe the person they see on the stands winning the gold Olympic medal was just natural inclined to win.  The truth is success, doesn’t happen by accident. The most successful person is the one who wakes up at the break of sunlight to perfect their skills. In business this might mean doing research, refining a report and perfecting a proposal. In our industry, cheerleading and dance, it means stretching, practicing your routine, watching reels of other competitors to be motivated by other hardworking athletes.

Competitive cheerleading and dance is physically demanding but it is also mentally demanding.  You have to be dedicated and willing to be the best you can be at all times. For newer athletes, the concept of practicing everyday, stretching and doing your athletic homework everyday doesn’t always sink in right away.  But those who grasp onto the concept find themselves excelling rapidly in the sport of competitive cheer and dance.

In many programs athletes are required to attend 4 or 5 day a week practices.  This can be overwhelming for parents and students with an already heavy schedule.  This isn’t because the coaches are trying to be mean or consume every minute of your time. Trust us, most coaches would rather have a free day or two to themselves. The reality is, most athletes do not have that rise with the sun mindset.   Now some skills require a gym with supervision such as stunts and tumbling, but those skills of hitting your routine with sharp arms and knowing your counts can be accomplished anywhere.

Do you have to rise with the sun? Of course not, but you should set aside at least 10 or more minutes aside each day to practice the sharpness, hitting marks and knowing your counts.  Taking this simple daily investment in your own success will help you form into the best performer you can be.

Hitting routines does not happen by accident. When you see Top Gunn performers hitting arms moves like sharp knives chopping through the air like axes chopping wood, please know that sharpness only comes for dedicated daily practice. It comes from the kind of athlete that doesn’t need to be reminded or supervised to make sure they are practicing. This level of athlete is made daily, when no one is watching and they are still practicing.

No matter what program you join, there is no substitution for daily practice, dedication, being on time for your practices and dedicating every mat second you have to perfecting your skills. There are no miracles out there that will make anyone better without dedication, practice and more dedicated practice.

One of our favorite quotes “SUCCESS ISN’T GIVEN. IT’S EARNED ON THE TRACK, ON THE FIELD, IN THE GYM. WITH BLOOD, SWEAT, AND THE OCCASIONAL TEAR”

If you haven’t sweated today, then you should ask yourself “Do you really want this”

It’s always awesome when you hit a new milestone

Congratulations to our team member Deeya who landing her first unassisted standing back handspring this week!

Her accomplishment is especially amazing as she came to us with no tumbling experience back in September 2012. Trains at the gym only 1 day a week 2 hours per week. But she is so fiercely dedicated, she does all her training skills daily and comes to practice every week ready and more than willing to learn.

Standing back handsprings are not easy and we are so proud of you!
